Dental Plan Types

Dental Insurance vs. Dental Savings Plans

Dental Insurance Plans - One of the most familiar types of dental insurance plan is the Dental Health Maintenance Organization or DHMO.

Another type of dental coverage or dental plan is known as: Dental Savings Plans/Non-Insurance Dental Plans/Discount dental plans/Reduced-Fee-For-Service Plans - these have recently become popular and can provide quality dental care at a discounted rate.

These non-insurance dental plans vary in types but for the most part, unlike dental insurance, have no annual limits. A monthly or yearly fee is paid for the membership and in exchange discounts on dental services are provided.

Depending on ones individual situation these savings can be substantial when multiple family members are involved. For example, for one individual if their dental costs are $1,000 for the year, a savings of $250 - $500 can possibly be received. If there is a family of four, and the projected dental costs are now $4,000 for the year, the savings have now increased by four! For those who are on a tight budget or have a large family, savings of this type can truly be appreciated.
