- A residential care home provides accommodation, meals and personal care for older people, people with disabilities, or people who are unable to manage at home on their own.
What is Residential Care or Group Home? Residential care homes or facilities are known by different names depending on where you live. In some areas they are called adult family homes, in other areas they may be referred to as personal care homes, group homes, or board and care homes.
Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFEs)—sometimes called "Assisted Living" or "Board and Care" facilities - are non-medical facilities that provide care that includes assistance with activities of daily living.
Residential care homes for older people not only provide accommodation, meals, leisure activities and personal care but often times emotional support.
There are also child residential care homes which provide residential care for children who have suffered neglect, abuse and who may have
behavioral difficulties. Child residential care homes help assure that the needs of children are met when they cannot live with their own family. They are a place where children are provided with food shelter allows for them to develop and grow in a safe environment.
