Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome also known as TMJ
Common cause of facial pain
TMJ is one of the most common causes of facial pain that can also cause chronic headaches, nausea, and other symptoms. Also called myofacial pain-dysfunction syndrome, this problem arises when there is an incorrect alignment of the lower jaw to the skull which then causes the bite to be off line.
The pain results from pressure on the facial nerves due to muscle tension or abnormalities of the bones in the area of the hinge joint, which is called the temporomandibular joint, between the lower jaw and the temporal bone.
